Plastic waste recycling – there is a lot to make up for!
An increasingly large amount of plastic waste is a gigantic problem of the contemporary world. Most countries have already introduced compulsory recycling and extra charges for non-eco-friendly packaging materials are also common. Despite stricter regulations, however, the problem is yet to be solved and production of e.g plastic packaging is still on the rise.
In terms of the management of synthetic waste disposal, Poland cannot boast a favourable image when compared to other European countries*. We are the sixth largest producer of plastic waste and we recycle less than 50% of the waste. By contrast, Lithuania can pride itself on the highest recycling rate: nearly 75% of synthetic waste gets recycled there.
What can we do to prevent an increasing production of plastic waste? Begin with yourself and be eco! Here follow simple tips:
- use cloth shopping bags,
- buy a glass bottle with a filter and use tap water instead of buying plastic bottles (you will save money as well!)
- use your own plastic lunch box for take-away food, give up on disposable, plastic packaging and cutlery,
- segregate waste – otherwise it won’t get recycled,
- use thermal mugs – coffee to go in plastic cups will not be hot for much longer while you will only produce more waste,
- store your food in glass containers,
- select shops where paper packaging is used instead of plastic carrier bags,
